Havdallah- literally meaning "separation," is the formal conclusion of Shabbat on Saturday evening at sundown. Traditionally, the havdallah blessings are recited at the time that three stars can be seen in the sky. For this ritual, a specially braided candle is lit, and the flames that burn from it mark the gradual end of Shabbat. The ritual of havdallah includes blessings for wine, spices, fire, and separating Shabbat from the rest of the week. This ceremony acknowledges that the end of Shabbat is bittersweet, but it hopeful of a sweet week ahead.
