HISTORY

The Biblical Period consists of those events of Jewish history that are in the Hebrew Bible, including the stories of creation, the exodus from Egypt, the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, and culminating with the Babylonian Exile in 586 BCE. While the historicity of many of the accounts found in the Hebrew Bible can be questioned, history, in the context of this period, could be understood as those narratives that helped form and shape what is now the Jewish people. Archaeology, in particular, has validated certain elements found within the Hebrew Bible, especially those in relation to the establishment of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah.
