In Parshat Bo, we read about the last three plagues inflicted upon the Egyptians – locusts, darkness, and death of the firstborn. Discuss why darkness would be considered a plague. What are the consequences of darkness on an individual and on a society? Kids loved to be blindfolded to experience darkness. In this craft, we use a fun and easy technique to represent this plague.

Materials:
Cardstock
Crayons
Toothpicks or chopsticks
Black acrylic paint

Instructions:
1. Have kids color the entire piece of paper with crayons.
2. Dust of all the wax.
3. Cover the entire paper with black paint. Let dry and apply a second coat.
4. Once paint is dry, etch a picture of Egypt on the paper so that the crayon shows through underneath.

Variation: For younger kids, you can eliminate the black paint and just color over the piece of paper with black crayons. Make sure you press hard and cover the entire page!
