In Parshat Shmot, the Pharaoh commands that all boys born to Hebrew women must be immediately killed. Yocheved places her newborn son in a basket in the River Nile: “When she could no longer hide him, she took for him a reed basket, smeared it with clay and pitch, placed the child into it, and put it into the marsh at the Nile’s edge” (Exodus 2:3). Ultimately, Pharaoh’s daughter finds, rescues, and names the baby. Children love babies, water, and baskets so the story of Baby Moshe makes for a great craft.
