Clara, a young slave, has been separated from her mother and sent to another plantation where she works as a seamstress and dreams of freedom. Based on a true story, Clara uses cloth scraps to create a patchwork map, stitching in what she overhears about an escape route to Canada. Ultimately, Clara does escape, leaving behind the quilt to guide other slaves to freedom.
