Following in Their Footsteps (3 of 3)

Lesson Summary:

This lesson comes from a unit called "Do Not Stand Idly By" on www.LearningToGive.org, a resource that offers philanthropy education resources that teach giving and civic engagement.

This unit's purpose:

"This unit emphasizes the responsibility of every individual to strive to make the world a better place, a concept known in Judaism as tikkun olam. Students learn to appreciate this task can only be accomplished collaboratively. They meet many Jewish "heroes" who have passed on a legacy of fulfilling acts of kindness.

The other lessons in this unit include:
Piecing Together The Puzzle
Jewish Heroes Congress

The purpose of this lesson:
"This lesson emphasizes that each individual must take action. After reflecting upon all that they learned earlier in the unit, students will have the opportunity to plan and execute a tikkun olam project of their choosing to help the local community."

Objectives

"The learner will:

  • reflect upon earlier lessons on tikkun olam.
  • inquire into possible tikkum olam projects.
  • plan a tikkun olam project by setting realistic goals to accomplish a specific outcome.
