Text: (Exodus 15:11 and 15:18)

Background:
Miriam’s Song by the great Debbie Friedman, may her memory be a blessing, is a favorite tune of many adult participants, especially those that experienced camp or youth group worship experiences that share the tune. This variation, inspired by the same text and including the daily liturgy Mi Chamocha, specifically invites movement and participation, and pairs the Hebrew with a translation- to better prepare these congregants to understand the Tefillah experiences they will join as they grow. This can also be a “zipper” song, so illicit ideas of movements and feelings that the people might have shared at this epic moment.

Mi Chamocha baelim adonai, Mi kamocha nedar Bakodesh
Great and Holy God, who is like you? no one is awesome as you!

Activities:
Play! Dance ! Sing!

I sometimes lay two long pieces of blue, watery fabric on the floor (buy several yards from a craft story or online), ideally down an aisle, and then ‘spit’ the sea by separating the fabric, and the community moves through the space as they imagine the sea.

Distribute instruments as you see fit- but make sure you have a plan for distributing and collecting the toys so that you can avoid logistical distractions. You can sing the instructions to the tune of the song “Now we share a clean-up song, a clean-up song, a clean-up song! Now we share a clean-up song, Please put toys in the box with me…”

Teaching Tip:
The PAssover story is one of the most well known, so encourage your children to help
Prepare your community to sing this by asking them questions. I have paired this tune with  a short clip from Prince of Egypt :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNGgsHbzWPs , with a clip of Dan Medwin’s Visual Tefillah: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUqnDwqUJJM , and with Debbie Friedman’s song of the same name. A bubble machine can also add a fun, playful water effect.
